I love when couples want to document their entire wedding weekend. Wedding welcome parties are such joyful events leading up to the big day. There is so much excitement in the air along with the joy of seeing and connecting with loved ones. I also love how including the night before tells the complete story of this important chapter, and provides me the opportunity of getting to know the people who mean the most to the couple. Sophie and Spencer’s western themed wedding welcome party in Cooperstown, NY was the perfect prelude to their amazing wedding day.
Western Themed Wedding Welcome Party
Sophie and Spencer held their wedding and welcome party at Sophie’s childhood and generational family home in Cooperstown, but they live in beautiful Montana full time. They really wanted to include a nod to the Big Sky Country that they call home. The barn that hosted their party was the perfect space, with vaulted ceilings and exposed wood beams that gave it a western, rustic feel. Blue and white checkered tablecloths made you think of the bright blue skies, and animal horns on the tables served as both a decorative detail and practical use, as once food was served, it held soft pretzels for guests to munch on.
The custom napkins were one of my favorite details. They featured a picture of a horse by the fence, which was a nod to the cowboy culture found in Montana, but also to the sweet horse on the property. Sophie’s family were fostering the horse, Sally, and officially adopted her the Monday after the wedding weekend. Hearing this news was extra special knowing how much Sally meant to all of them. It made an already memorable weekend, even more-so.
We made sure to capture plenty of couple portraits before the party of Sophie and Spencer walking along the gorgeous family property, and of course, with Sally too. Afterwards, loved ones gathered inside and shared heartfelt words about the soon-to-be-newlyweds. It was a perfect evening and prelude to their wedding day, which was even more amazing than I could have imagined.
