Sophie and Spencer’s private estate wedding in New York was an unforgettable day, mainly because every part of the day told a story. From family heirlooms passed down through generations to a ceremony surrounded by flowers planted by Sophie’s parents, every detail reflected the couple and the history that brought them to this moment. Needless to say, their wedding instantly became one of my favorites to date.
The entire wedding took place on Sophie’s family estate, a property that has been in her family for generations. Rather than simply choosing a beautiful venue, they chose a place already filled with memories, which made every part of the celebration feel even more personal. With the home grown zinnias planted at the ceremony spot by her parents to the reception being held on the family property in a gorgeous, clear conservatory tent, each detail was special and brought their vision to life.
Family Heirlooms
Sophie’s hair comb and veil were all worn by women in her family, which felt so monumental that this tradition was continuing with her. Her Essense of Australia wedding dress paired seamlessly with her veil that has been in the family for generations. While she got ready, photos of other women in the family on their wedding day decorated the room. It was a beautiful reminder that weddings don’t just celebrate a new beginning; they also honor the generations that came before.
Their Story
Having met on Hinge, Sophie and Spencer shared their first date at a Ryan Bingham concert. A few years later, Spencer proposed on a hike in Glacier National Park at a perfect secluded spot with a stunning view they enjoyed all to themselves. Now they have built a life together and their excitement over their wedding day was evident. The emotion and happiness experienced during their first look was one of my favorite moments.
Private Estate Wedding in New York
The private estate family property allowed for the most beautiful wedding portraits in a natural, relaxed setting. The open fields gave way to wooded areas, which gave us variety. The couple had also been fostering Sally the horse and ended up signing her adoption paperwork the Monday after their wedding. Sally was found in TERRIBLE condition and they nursed her back to health. Including Sally in a few portraits felt like such a meaningful way to document this season and their compassionate nature.
Their outdoor ceremony was intimate and heartfelt. You could tell not only how much they loved each other but how much love surrounded them. Seeing the happy tears and the joy on everyone’s faces as they exchanged vows was so special.
Afterwards, everyone headed to the conservatory tent reception which was absolutely stunning. The black tent framework added a modern touch. Meanwhile, lush florals and candlelight and the surrounding landscape created an elevated yet welcoming atmosphere.
The evening ended with a dazzling firework display, which was beyond perfect. Capturing Sophie and Spencer’s special day was such a treat, and I am so grateful to have been a part of it!
