Rainy Spring Lake Wedding

Filed under:

Kath and Paul’s rainy Spring Lake wedding was beautiful in every way and filled with so many timeless details. They had a traditional church ceremony, rainy wedding portraits on the beach, and a Sperry tent reception. Even though the rain and wind may not have been part of the original plan, it became part of a day that was every bit as memorable as the two of them.

Spring Lake, NJ has such a classic coastal charm, and Spring Lake Golf Club was the perfect setting for their celebration. I love the traditional elements of their wedding, which complemented the fun details like colorful bridesmaids’ dresses and vibrant florals. Set to the natural beauty of the Jersey Shore, their day was both elegant and full of personality.

Kath and Paul exchanged vows at St. Catharine surrounded by their loved ones in the most beautiful church sanctuary. Afterwards, the newlyweds exited the church as guests holding umbrellas celebrated the newly married couple. The light drizzle that started right after the ceremony picked up just as we made our way toward the beach for portraits. The weekend of their wedding, Hurricane Ian was making its way up the coast. However, Kath and Paul weren’t about to let a little weather change their plans.

We had talked through indoor options as a backup, but when I checked in with them after the ceremony, they didn’t hesitate. They wanted to go outside and embrace the day as it was. Knowing these two, that answer made perfect sense. I’m so glad they did, and that they trusted me to capture them on this incredible day, because while we didn’t plan for the hurricane, we got some pretty ICONIC images that will stand the test of time for many future generations to see.

Rainy Wedding Portraits on the Beach

The wind was strong, the rain had arrived, and the beach was anything but calm. Still, Kath and Paul were ready to make the most of it. We headed outside together, embracing the elements and trusting that something beautiful could come from a day we couldn’t control. With wind gusts reaching around 28 mph in Spring Lake, these weren’t exactly the conditions you would choose for traditional wedding portraits!

There was something so powerful about seeing Kath and Paul together in the middle of it all. The wind, the rain, the ocean, and their willingness to simply be present made for images that felt completely true to them.

Sperry Tent Reception at Spring Lake Golf Club

Afterwards, we dried off and headed to the reception celebration beneath a Sperry tent at Spring Lake Golf Club. Sperry tents have such an elegant, timeless look. Stringed lights hung from the tent ceiling while bright orange and pink flowers intermixed with greenery and a couple white flowers decorated the tables, adding a pop of color to the space. The elegant, relaxing atmosphere allowed the newlyweds and their guests to settle in and enjoy being together. Their wedding night was full of delicious food, heartfelt speeches, dancing, and so much laughter and love.

Kath and Paul, thank you for trusting me to capture your rainy, but absolutely perfect wedding day. Standing alongside you on that windy beach was an experience I’ll never forget. I hope these photographs become a reminder for generations to come that the most meaningful moments aren’t always the ones that go according to plan; sometimes, they’re the ones you embrace together. Congratulations!
