Emily and Max’s M&D Farm garden wedding in the Hudson Valley was a beautiful celebration of love, family, culture. Surrounded by 70 of their closest friends and family, they celebrated their Western wedding in a way that felt incredibly personal to the two of them. Then, just one week later, they continued the celebration in Shanghai for their Eastern wedding. This colorful garden-inspired design for their western wedding wove together thoughtful cultural details throughout the day, resulting in a wedding day that was both intentional and completely them.
Emily and Max’s story began at Harvard, where they met at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health during an admitted student’s day. Their first date, however, happened by accident when they were the only two to show up for a welcome event at the Isabella Gardner Museum. Now, here they are nine years later celebrating their wedding surrounded by the people they love most.
M&D Farm Wedding
The couple even designed their own wedding invitations and letterpressed them themselves. It was such a beautiful reflection of the care they put into their wedding day. They also exchanged matching watches as gifts to one another, which was so sweet. Their sweet dog Prince was also part of the celebration, and we made sure to include him in a few portraits.
Emily and Max chose a garden formal aesthetic for their celebration at M&D Farm in upstate New York and it couldn’t have been more perfect. This stunning Hudson Valley wedding venue sits on 58 acres and is known for its unforgettable wedding celebrations. The couple had both their wedding ceremony and reception outside, fully embracing the European-style garden and natural beauty of the venue.
Garden Wedding Filled With Color
Their wedding colors included red, chartreuse, lavender, and orange, which brought so much personality and energy to the day. The florals by Ivy Oaks Design throughout the ceremony and reception were absolutely breathtaking, with vibrant arrangements that incorporated their color palette while still feeling cohesive with the natural beauty of the property.
The reception design was one of my favorite details of the entire day. Rather than having every table look exactly the same, each table had its own color story and corresponding flower. One table featured red roses at the foot of the table, with individual red roses and red candles running down the center of the long table. Other tables had color themes in shades of purple, orange, blue, and green. The result was colorful, unexpected, and incredibly beautiful. Every table felt like its own little garden while still coming together as one cohesive reception design.
Since Emily and Max were celebrating their marriage with two weddings, one in New York and another in Shanghai, it was important to them to honor their cultures during their Western celebration.
One of the biggest highlights of the day was a performance by the Spirited Lions. Bringing this tradition into their Hudson Valley wedding was such a meaningful way to honor their heritage while celebrating with their friends and family in New York. It was also one of those moments that brought everyone into the celebration. The energy and excitement surrounding the performance made it an unforgettable part of the day.
Their M&D Farm wedding was vibrant, joyful, and completely personal. It was a beautiful way to begin their next chapter together and it was an honor to be a part of it.
