Steph and Billy’s Catskill Mountain wedding at Deer Mountain Inn was a dream wedding day. I loved how intentional they were when planning their wedding day and seeing it through. Deer Mountain Inn isn’t just where Steph and Billy got married. It’s where their story continues to unfold, as it has always meant a lot to both of them. In fact, since early in their relationship, they’ve spent every anniversary there, which happens to fall on New Year’s Eve weekend. It became their place – something they kept just for themselves, never sharing it with others. A quiet tradition, tucked away in the mountains in upstate New York.
So when it came time to plan their wedding, there was no question where they’d have it. Deer Mountain Inn is where it would all come full circle, as it is also where Billy proposed. What started as a rushed arrival for their five year anniversary dinner turned into a thoughtfully planned scavenger hunt throughout the property. With the help of the staff (and even a few guests), Steph followed clues that ultimately led her outside on the front steps where Billy was waiting down on one knee, along with their families.
Now this beautiful place already filled with so many happy memories became the setting for one of the most important moments of their lives. It was the perfect backdrop for their wedding day, which was filled with so much joy and love all around.
Their Story: From Friendship to Forever
Steph and Billy’s relationship began at Lehigh University, where they met as freshmen and quickly became close friends. They spent much of college in each other’s lives but dating other people. Then during senior year, the timing finally aligned and they were both single. Even then, Billy had to be persistent, asking Steph out multiple times before she said yes.
Now, after six and a half years together, they stood in the Catskills, surrounded by loved ones vowing their commitment to one other.
Elevated Catskill Mountain Wedding
Steph, a rising star designer named by House Beautiful Magazine, brought a gorgeous sense of style to the day that felt elegant, natural and elevated.
Their tented, open-air reception was warm and inviting with string lights glowing overhead, soft romantic details woven throughout, and the mountains quietly surrounding them. It felt intimate, relaxed, and full of love. The wedding details perfectly complemented the natural beauty of the venue, focusing on a clean and classic color palette of white with lots of greenery woven in.
Another highlight from their wedding day was their adorable dog who played a role in the ceremony. I also loved how the leash was wrapped in greenery making even the simplest of details feel elevated.
Their First Dance
One of the most memorable moments of the entire day happened during their first dance, which might be my favorite first dance moment ever. Steph and Billy had planned a private first dance on the mountaintop, surrounded only by their immediate family. But just as the moment began, the speaker stopped working due to the rain.
Instead of letting it take away from the experience, someone drove their car up the mountain and blasted their song through the car stereo so they could have their first dance as they originally planned. It was one of the most romantic first dances I’ve ever witnessed.
As the evening continued, guests celebrated under the glow of string lights, with laughter, music, and so much joy filling the space. Guests loved the mini Patron bottles for their wedding favors and enjoyed s’mores at the fire pit for dessert. It was such a memorable day filled with so many wonderful details and moments.
Steph and Billy, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your stunning wedding day. It was truly an honor and I wish you a lifetime of love and happiness.
