As an NYC wedding photographer, I adore every chance I get to explore and photograph different neighborhoods with my couples throughout the city. In NYC, there is always more to discover, and I also love going back to places I’ve photographed before because there’s always something new to uncover. I wanted to create this guide to help you find your perfect NYC engagement location!

Best NYC Engagement Photo Locations
Here’s a round-up of some incredible NYC engagement photo locations that will create a stunning backdrop for your session:
Dumbo
Dumbo is an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass and is a beautiful neighborhood with so many stunning spots for photos, including one of my favorite spots – Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Brooklyn Bridge Park is an iconic and romantic location for your engagement session. I love how each session I photograph here feels cinematic with classic New York vibes.
Some other spots I’d recommend for photos in Dumbo include:
- Jane’s Carousel
- Washington Street
- The Waterfront
- Pebble Beach
- St. Ann’s Warehouse
- Main Street Park
Pro tip – if you do want to plan your session in Dumbo, I would personally recommend planning a sunrise session, as this spot gets very busy during the day and at sunset.

Brooklyn Heights
Brooklyn Heights has that quintessential New York charm, and it’s famous for its beautiful brownstones and the views it offers of the Manhattan skyline. Here you’ll find quiet tree-lined streets and charming neighborhoods.
Also, you can easily get to Brooklyn Heights from Brooklyn Bridge Park if you want to have both be a part of your session.

SoHo
SoHo is known for its charming cobblestone streets, boutiques, fashion, and historic architecture. It’s the ideal setting for your engagement session if you love fashion, art, and a trendy urban vibe.
There are a lot of different spots throughout SoHo you can explore and use as a backdrop for your session, with some of my favorites being Prince Street, Spring Street Loft Buildings, Crosby Street, and the outside of Fanelli’s Cafe.

Central Park
Who doesn’t love Central Park? It’s an iconic spot beloved by locals and tourists alike, and it’s also an enchanting backdrop for an engagement session. Since the park is huge, I like to scout and discuss locations with my couples before planning a session here to find the perfect location for them that aligns with their vision.
Here’s a list of some of the most cherished spots in Central Park:
- Bethesda Terrace & Fountain
- Central Park Lake
- The Bow Bridge
- Gothic Bridge
- Belvedere Castle
- The Ramble
- Conservatory Garden
- The Mall
- Shakespeare Garden

Fort Tryon Park
Fort Tryon Park has gorgeous architecture and beautiful gardens that create an idyllic backdrop for your session. I consider this park to still be a hidden gem and a great place to escape from the hustle and bustle of NYC.
When you arrive at the park, you’ll be surrounded by lush greenery and be immersed in a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. During your session, you can explore the winding trails, and the park offers you panoramic views of the Hudson River. Also, another can’t miss spot that creates a beautiful backdrop in Fort Tryon is The Cloisters!

Tribeca
Tribeca is another neighborhood of NYC that is famous for its cobblestone streets and gorgeous historic buildings. It has a chic, upscale vibe and is another spot with a variety of stunning spots where you can take your photos.
Some spots I’d recommend including as part of your session are Washington Market Park, Staple Street Skybridge, and the Roxy Hotel.

West Village
West Village has eye-catching views of the Empire State Building and the World Trade Center, and has been featured in many different iconic movies and TV shows. It’s very easy to understand why the West Village is a desired spot for an engagement session!
The West Village is filled with beautiful brownstones, cafes that embody a European aesthetic, and it’s simply a stunning neighborhood to explore and wander around.
Some great spots throughout the West Village for photos include the crosswalks of 7th Ave, on the steps of brownstones, the Christopher St 1 Train Station, and Stumptown Roasters or Little Owl.

Upper East Side
I have a very special place in my heart for the Upper East Side since I lived there for 7 years. The Upper East Side has luxurious townhouses, is close to Central Park, and exudes elegance and sophistication. Throughout the Upper East Side, two beautiful spots for photos that I’d suggest include The Met Steps and Conservatory Water in Central Park.

Gramercy
Gramercy has quiet streets, historic townhouses, and it is a place that is full of charm. A great spot for photos is in Gramercy Park with its iron fence and quiet surrounding streets. As many New Yorkers know, Gramercy Park is private and only accessible by key for neighbors in the area. But as a resident, you can access it for a very intimate engagement session.
