Grace Church, NYC || Microwedding

Lucy and Louis booked me right before the pandemic started last March. While we remained hopeful for months that their January 2021 wedding would be unscathed, it soon became clear in the Fall of 2020 that plans had to change.

Lucy hails from Northern VA where I grew up and that was probably one of the first things that we connected on was the fact that I recognized her area code. The 703 is RARE these days! Lucy and Louis met back in 2017. Louis happened to be the cousin of a choir member that she was in in NYC. They hit it off and a proposal happened in the years after. When I first talked to them about their celebration prior to the pandemic hitting, they were planning on welcoming 200 guests to Union Square for a wedding to remember. In fact they had a mission statement for their wedding, “Experience over Aesthetics.” And while the celebration with their 200 guests was postponed, they surely hit their mission statement. Of all the Micro-weddings I’ve captured the last few months, this was probably one of the most romantic. In an empty church and also one of the oldest (200+ years!) in NYC, Lucy and Louis gathered 11.5 of their closest to witness them promise eternity to each other. I don’t know if you can get more romantic than that!

I got chills throughout the day knowing how monumental this moment was for their families. And being at Grace Church, with it’s old architecture, really transported me where airplanes cannot right now. They simply don’t make churches the way they used to and I was so grateful to be there to capture it all.

Congrats Lucy and Louis! Looking forward to celebrating again next year!
