Destination Portrait Session in Scotland | Capturing Your Story Abroad

Destination Portrait Session in Scotland

As a NYC based wedding and portrait photographer, I’m always drawn to stories that feel both personal and visually timeless. Jose and Ryan’s destination portrait session in the Highlands of Scotland was exactly that. On top of that, I always love traveling to new destinations and capturing the memories of my couples.

While Jose and Ryan are normally from sunny Palm Springs, they were visiting the Highlands of Scotland for a destination wedding and decided to have portraits taken while they were there. This was such a fun session and really highlights that locations abroad aren’t just for weddings. Destination portrait sessions and even engagements are a unique way to document your story.

Why Destination Portrait Sessions Matter

There’s something incredibly special about choosing to document your relationship in a place that’s new or special. Jose and Ryan had never been to Scotland before, which made this experience even more memorable.

Their Scotland couples session was a great reminder that you don’t need a proposal or a wedding day to justify capturing your story. Whether you’re traveling abroad, celebrating a milestone, or simply want to remember a season of life, you can (and should) document it.

Destination portrait sessions and engagement sessions provide a meaningful way to tie your love story to a place, document a moment in your relationship, and allow you to slow down and be present together while traveling.

Achnagairn Castle Portraits

Set in the Scottish Highlands, Achnagairn Castle provides a stunning backdrop with its grandeur, sprawling grounds, and picturesque gardens. It was the perfect setting for Jose and Ryan’s couple portraits. They wandered through the gardens holding hands, laughing, and just enjoying the moment together.

Jose and Ryan chose custom suits for their session, one in grey and the other dark green, leaning into a polished, classic aesthetic that complemented the setting beautifully. One detail I especially loved was the incorporation of brooches. This is a trend that’s quickly gaining popularity in men’s formalwear, and I absolutely love it.

It’s a small detail, but one that adds personality and intention to an overall look. I always encourage my couples to think about styling as part of their storytelling, as it’s one of the ways to incorporate your individuality into a session.

If you’re planning to travel, whether for a wedding or simply a getaway, consider setting aside time for a portrait session. It doesn’t have to be elaborate. Sometimes the most meaningful images come from simply being together in a place that is beautiful, special, or inspiring to you.

As a New York and destination portrait photographer, I’d love to connect and capture your story. You deserve a photographer who is invested in you and capturing every moment.
