I do this every year. It’s been routine. Yet, every year it sneaks up on me and I find myself carving away time once the kids are in bed to reflect back on what an INCREDIBLE year it’s been. But of course with any year it wasn’t smooth sailing all the way through. There was a lot of unexpected twists and turns and even when I thought I had this year figured out, it flipped on me in a great unexpected way. Here are my takeaways from 2019:

Never assume that the way your year begins will be the way it ends. Good and Bad.

Your mindset is the driving force of your superpowers. Use it.

There are people you haven’t met yet that will make a profound impact in your life in a few short months.

A powerful black and white image is timeless and something I fell more and more in love with this year.

Film is not dead.
The couples and families I got to spend my days with really inspired some of my best work this year. There were days where I simply did not want it to end because I was fully in my element capturing memories that will be treasured for a lifetime. There’s no doubt in my mind that this is exactly what I should be doing with my life and while I may not have realized it as I went through the motions of college and my MBA, I’m glad I know it now.

And through it all, this year has allowed me to be a bit more present with my family while truly embracing the type of work that I never imagined was possible for myself. These boys are my main motivator for flipping my career path on it’s head so many years ago and I will forever be grateful for the way they have shaped me into the person and mom I never knew I could be. And to my husband, you were my first cheerleader when all of this was just a brief “Wouldn’t it be cool…” conversation. I would have never pursued a career in photography without your incredible support. Love you to the moon and back.
