My little sister got married over the summer at Kingston Plantation in Myrtle Beach. A day we thought was always in the distance but as all weddings do, the date snuck up on us and before we knew it, we were full blown into the final days of wedding prep. The scramble to get final details prepped and in place to make the most glorious day for my sister and her fiance, Jay, is something so many couples know so well. My little sister has always been lovingly referred to as “Lil Kim”among many other nicknames that she has earned through the years. When Lil’ Kim asked me to capture her Vietnamese ceremony in a way that only a family member could, I absolutely agreed and was honored. A Vietnamese wedding and tea ceremony is mostly held in front of the closest of family members and friends. It’s significant as it pays respect to our elders who have come and passed before us as we request the blessings bestowed on the new couple. It also pays honor to the deeply rooted traditions that our family were built on.
Later on in the day, we transitioned to the western ceremony at the Dunes Golf and Country Club where I also switched over to bridesmaid duties and a GUEST at a wedding. Amazing! I haven’t been a guest in a while and it was great to celebrate the newlyweds while spending some time with family who made the long trip overseas to join in on toasting to the new husband and wife! But even though I was a bridesmaid, I still had my camera close by to take some images that would continue to tell the story of the day through my POV.
