Engagement Prep Guide

Engagement Prep Guide

Let’s officially introduce you to the world as a couple.

who’s about to get SERIOUS.

Walk out the door as your Truest Self…

but elevated

For the Ladies:

  • Hair Cut/Color

If you’re planning on cutting and/or coloring your hair, do it about 7 to 10 days prior to the shoot.

  • Manicure

There will MORE than likely be a shot of your ring on your finger, get a manicure. And while you’re out, pop into a jewelry store and get your ring cleaned so it’s EXTRA sparkly.

  • Outfit

Pick your outfit FIRST and make sure it FITS properly. Then coordinate your fiance’s outfit around yours. Feel free to bring an outfit change and we’ll change it up if time permits.

  • Make Up

This is also a great time to take advantage of scheduling a make up trial for your wedding look the day of your Engagement Shoot.

For the Guys:

  • Hair Cut/Color

If you’re planning on cutting your hair, do it about 5 to 7 days prior to the shoot.

  • Outfit

You’ll want to make sure your outfit complements your partner’s so be sure to coordinate with each other. The one thing I see so often are clothing items that are too big or too small on someone. A GREAT fit really elevates the overall look.

  • “Happy Wife, Happy Life.”

Guys, it’s all about making HER look good. Do as you’re told. You’ll learn soon enough, “Happy Wife. Happy Life.”

Tips on What to wear:

  • Outfit

Wear colors and clothes that you will feel comfortable in during the shoot. Nothing where you will feel that you would need to adjust regularly during the shoot if it doesn’t fit right. The more comfortable you are, the more confident you will be and the better the photos will turn out. I want your friends and family to look at your photos and say “Oh that is SOOO x and y!” not “hey, who are these people that are not being authentic.”

  • Patterns

Don’t wear any crazy patterns or any thin stripes, they tend to photograph weird.

  • Jersey material

Don’t wear any free flowing jersey type of shirts/dresses. While SUPER comfortable, they tend to photograph oddly and are super unforgiving.

  • Complementary

Clothes that complement each other adds great composition and dynamics to the images. Matching clothes doesn’t have the same impact.

  • When in doubt

Don’t ever hesitate to send me any outfit questions you may have. Take a picture of the outfits and email it to me and I am more than happy to provide some guidance

Random Notes:

  • Props

If there are any props you want to incorporate into the shoot, please bring those: blankets, pets (I LOVE DOGS!) or anything meaningful to you both.
